Use Existing Thesauri
31/07/2025
For many domains there are already existing thesauri which can be (re-)used. Thus, before you start to create a new project take some time to search for vocabularies which could be (re-)used. PoolParty offers the possibility to import thesauri or parts of thesauri in many different formats.
We will use the 'A guide to classic cocktails' thesaurus.
Save locally a project file you want to import.
Click Project, then Import to open the dialog window where you can select the file you want to import.
Confirm your selection with a click on Import. This opens the New Project dialog where you have to enter all mandatory details of the new project which is based on the selected import file. All mandatory input fields are marked with an asterisk.
After having specified all mandatory details and any desired optional information click the Create Project button to proceed or Cancel to abort.
A new dialog window appears. On this Confirmation dialog you see all the settings you have specified for the project you want to import. Review all the settings carefully. If you decide that you need to change or add anything click the Back to Editing button, otherwise click Create Project to continue or Cancel to abort the operation.
Tip
Tick the Run Data Validation checkbox to have all data validated after the import to ensure that all imported data is not damaged.
An indicator appears as long as the data is being imported. If you ticked the Run Data Validation checkbox, the validation will start as soon as the imported project has been loaded.
At the end of the validation the results of this operation are displayed. If any issues are detected you can click on those and try remedying them. If no issues have been detected proceed with a click on Save. The newly created project based on the selected import file is now open and you see the Data Validator subtab of the Quality Management tab. Use the Data Validator to start the validation of the project data at any point or upload and validate data.
You can save the validation results with a click on Save or discard them using the Discard button.
WIth a click on your project name in the tree view open the Metadata tab of your newly created project based on the selected import file.
